Abstract
A review of the application of decision and game-theoreticalmodels of International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards verificationmeasures as they have developed from the inception of theNPT to the present day is given. Two kinds of formal models aredefined: practical models for the planning, implementation, andperformance evaluation of inspections under INFCIRC/153 andbasic models for the analysis of integrated safeguards measuresunder the new protocol. The discussion is illustrated with examplesshowing the advantages and power of a quantified approachto the solution of safeguards problems.
