The IAEAs Illicit Trafficking Database: A Users Perspective on Strengthened Reporting

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Illicit TraffickingDatabase (ITDB) is a successful and established program forexchanging and analyzing authoritative data on nuclear andradiological trafficking incidents. However, ITDB member statescould realize a greater return on their participation by reportingadditional information on trafficking incidents, namely nuclearforensic and national law enforcement data. This additionalreporting is a logical complement to the ITDB’s proven strengthsin multilateral trafficking data collection, storage, and dissemination,and will enhance both ITDB and member state analysis ofillicit nuclear trafficking.
