Abstract
The Triborder Area (TBA) in South America encompasses threestates and is formed by three cities, Ciudad del Este, Paraguay;Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil; and Puerto Iguazú, Argentina. This regioncovers only 1,200 square kilometers and has a population ofaround 630,000 people. The TBA is notorious for being a regionof illicit trafficking, cross-border and organized crime, moneylaundering, and arms dealing, and has also been implicated as anarea vulnerable to terrorist activity.
