Abstract
The Standing Committee on International Security ofRadioactive and Nuclear Materials of the INMM Nonproliferationand Arms Control Technical Division conducted aworkshop in March 2007, Reducing the Risk from Radioactiveand Nuclear Materials. This kickoff workshop examined issuesand best practices in three panel discussions: Nuclear TraffickingDetection/Response, Transportation Security/Standards, andTensions and Synergies Between Safety and Security for Nuclearand Radioactive Materials. Technology gaps, policy gaps, andprioritization for addressing the identified gaps were discussed.Participants included academics, policy makers, radioactive materialsusers, first responders to catastrophic events, physical securityand safeguards specialists, and vendors of radioactive sources.This paper summarizes the results of this workshop.
