Opening Plenary Speech II

Thank you. It is a special honor to have aplace at the podium at the 50th AnnualMeeting of the Institute of NuclearMaterials Management. Completing thecelebration of your fiftieth year is a happyoccasion. Of course, the real celebration isnot that you’ve survived fifty years—butwhat you’ve accomplished in that time.In the late 1950s, when a group ofprofessionals came together to discuss theestablishment of a new institute—the primaryconcern was preventing loss of materialthat was expensive to make andessential to the military policies of theUnited States.
