Abstract
CdZnTe and CdTe detectors are uniquely suited for in-the-field international Safeguards verification measurements of nuclear material. This paper reviews the current developments and implementation of these detectors for various safeguards verification tasks. A review of associated hardware and software is also presented. Future developments are considered that would further enhance the detectors application for international safeguards. These developments will lead to the replacement of some of the detectors currently used. The number of different detector types used in safeguards equipment systems will be kept to a minimum in order not to increase equipment management cost.
