Nuclear Fuel Cycle And Research Facility Decommissioning In The Context Of International Nuclear Security

An initial technical study was performed for the Office of International Nuclear Security (INS)of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to evaluate civilian decommissioningin the context of international nuclear security. The resulting Decommissioning Security Reporthas been submitted to INS for their consideration. The intent of the report was to: 1) assessinternational nuclear security related to the increasing demand for nuclear decommissioningservices; 2) establish a methodology for assessing over 2,300 nuclear facilities worldwide toidentify where the higher risks may exist; 3) identify the types of potential risks; 4) outline astrategy to address such risks; and 5) identify next steps and future activities for consideration.An important element of this technical effort is to identify partners that are interested incollaboration in this area.
