Abstract
The broader conclusion that all nuclear material has remained in peaceful activities in the ROK was drawn by the IAEA in June 2008, and integrated safeguards have been implemented in the ROK since July 2008. On the basis of experience gained through integrated safeguards implementation, IAEA will start to implement state level integrated safeguards in the ROK this year. Ten nuclear facilities and one location outside facilities(LOF) of the KAERI-Daejeon site are subject to IAEA safeguards. They are grouped into three categories according to the approved IAEA state-level approaches(SLA), based on the assessed strategic value of the declared nuclear material and functional capability of the respective nuclear installation. The R&D facility is involved in Category II. In this paper, the SG implementation experience at the R&D facility is addressed. The overview of the R&D facility is introduced and the status of the SG implementation at the R&D facility is summarized.
