Abstract
The paper addresses the problem of characterization of a source detected by the radiation portal monitors. The sources used for the tests belong to three energy groups: low-energy sources represented by Co-57 and Ba-133; medium-energy sources represented by Cs-137; and high- energy sources represented by K-40. It was found that the system operated under the new algorithm allows a monitor not only detecting sources, but properly characterizing them in real time during vehicle passages.
