Establishment of a Nuclear Forensics Support System in the Republic of Korea

One initiative taken by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to strengthen the international nuclear security regime was to publish the ‘Nuclear forensics support’. This document outlines recommendations on how to establish a nuclear forensics support system. One important recommendation was the need to develop a nuclear material library for nuclear forensics. The aim of this study is to provide a method to help government agencies in the Republic of Korea (ROK) help facilitate the establishment of a nuclear material library. A nuclear forensics council has been formed in order to organize such a library that will include nuclear material data from facilities under safeguards.
