Abstract
The discipline of 'nuclear forensic analysis' (nuclear forensics) is normally associated with investigations and prosecutions in the context of illicit trafficking of nuclear materials or nuclear terrorism. This paper presents the forthcoming book that expands the existing definition of the nuclear forensic analysis and shows its applicability in various areas of nuclear nonproliferation, disarmament and arms control; discusses advantages and limitations of the most relevant measurement techniques; recounts the history of long-range detection programs in the US, Soviet Union and Sweden; provides a compendium of nuclear forensic signatures in the nuclear fuel cycle and in the post-explosion environment; and provides a number of specific examples of the use of nuclear forensics in diverse applications.
