Abstract
There are various methods to educate newly hired nuclear safeguards inspectors in KINAC. Providing manuals while giving lectures to new inspectors is a very basic method. And the best method is to show them how to do the inspection in the nuclear facilities; visiting sites and observing how the inspection goes. But it is not easy to have a clear idea about how to conduct the inspection with just materials and lectures until they visit the site. On this matter, the KINAC has recently developed a new educational tool, 3D based computer system for inspectors, with which new inspectors can learn how to prepare for the inspection and explore the KMPs(Key Measurement Points) in two facilities, Wolsung PHWR and Younggwang LWR, by themselves. This 3D system has 3 main functionalities; 3D virtual tour of each facility, 3D animations showing inspection procedures and inspection-related information. The 3D system is not only very useful to learners but also to lecturers since the information of the 3D system is systematically organized and categorized. The 3D system can also be a very useful tool for meeting since it provides 3D space information about the KMPs of facilities. This paper describes how the 3D system was developed while introducing the IT tools used for 3D modeling and methods for collecting data regarding the safeguards inspection. This paper also presents the functionalities and usage of the 3D system.
