Abstract
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to establish the appropriate design of the lead-type cask by experimental method. Firstly, in order to examine heat removal ability, a multi-wall cylinder models composed with three layers (carbon steel – lead – carbon steel) were used. Secondary, in order to examine the lead slump, the above models were dropped, and the transformation of the lead layer surface was measured. The heat transfer characteristics and the amount of lead slump were confirmed from the experimental methods. These results are reflected in more appropriate design of the lead-type multi-wall cask.
