Abstract
This paper discusses a software program model used to help determine the optimum equipment configuration for the design of access control facilities. The results of the model minimize space requirements in order to reduce cost and process personnel in the shortest time possible while maintaining the security of the facility. The structure of the model addresses processing times for each piece of equipment including false rejection rates. The model also includes human interaction times and maximum queueing limitations. After establishing the basic traffic model, parameters can be changed to evaluate alternative configurations.
