Abstract
The U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) is actively engaged in international and domestic efforts to protect nuclear and radiological materials from theft, diversion or sabotage. This paper describes the domestic threat reduction efforts which are rapidly expanding in scope and now include: Security Assessments/Upgrades, Research Reactors, Alarm Response Training, Table Top Exercises, In-Device Delay for Cesium Chloride Irradiators, Transportation Security, and the Off-Site Source Recovery Program. This paper provides an overview of all these efforts, lessons learned, and plans for expansion.
