Abstract
With support from the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), the Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Monterey Institute of International Studies is developing a series of web-based tutorials on nonproliferation issues. These self-paced tutorials are designed to introduce proliferation threats and nonproliferation treaties and regimes to university students, custodians of nuclear material, journalists, and the general public. The tutorials use HTML documents and Flash animations to integrate foundational text, multimedia features, specialized glossaries, links to enrichment readings, and self-assessment tools. The first tutorial, on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), is available in both English and Russian at http://nti.org/h_learnmore/h3_tutorial.html. Planned topics for future tutorials include terrorism with chemical and biological weapons, the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), and weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. CNS is making special efforts to provide educators in the former Soviet countries with these materials for use in MPC&A training programs and courses on nonproliferation and arms control.
