The 2000 NPT Review Conference: An Assessment

Michael Rosenthal is director of the Office of Multilateral Nuclear Affairs in the Nonproliferation Bureau of the U.S. Department of State. MNA provides advice and policy recommendations on nuclear nonproliferation issues concerning the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, nuclear weapon free zones, and the Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty. For example, Rosenthal's office seeks to strengthen the IAEA safeguards system. It develops safeguards and other verification and transparency concepts related to the Administration's nuclear nonproliferation initiatives, including a global cutoff treaty; and leads U.S. efforts with respect to the NPT and nuclear weapon free zones.
