Joint Project of the European Union and the Russian Federation on Combating Illicit Trafficking of Nuclear and Radioactive Material within the TACIS Program

The project “Implementation of measures to combat illicit trafficking of radioactive and nuclear material in the Russian Federation” within the TACIS Program is carried out in the framework of the contract between VNIIA of the State Corporation ROSATOM and JRC-ITU of the European Commission. The project participants are the organizations from the Russian Customs, Ministry of Interior Affairs, and the State Corporation ROSATOM. The project started in January 2009 and should be completed in November 2012. The major goal of the project is to enhance the non-proliferation regime and to address the threat of nuclear and radiological terrorism. Within the scope of this project the European Union provides the assistance to Russia in improving the technical and administrative measures to combat illicit trafficking of radioactive and nuclear in the Russian Federation.
