Abstract
The Department of Energy Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) will be establishing and implementing an integrated Safeguards and Security program for the storage, transportation, and disposal of SNF and HLW. OCRWM will be designing, licensing, and operating this facility according to applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations, which will include any requirements that are imposed by the International Atomic Energy Agency. OCRWM will be designing the Safeguards and Security Program for the protection, control, and monitoring of SNF and HLW at the proposed long-term storage geologic repository. In the process of developing this program, OCRWM is determining what programs, policies, and procedures in addition to those required by the NRC should be implemented for the Monitored Geologic Repository (MGR) to ensure the national security, and protect the safety and health of the public.
