Abstract
This paper presents the derivation of the multiplicity correlation between prompt neutrons and photons from measurements of spontaneously fissioning 252Cf. Organic scintillators, capable of distinguishing between photons and neutrons, were used to measure the joint multiplicity distribution. In turn, this was used to find the Pearson Correlation Coefficient, which gives a measure of the multiplicity correlation. The unfolded, physical, correlation between neutrons and photons is found to be ρ = −0.069 ± 0.005, indicating weak competition.
