Abstract
It is commonly acknowledged that nuclear waste from fresh nuclear material has lower proliferation concerns than nuclear waste from irradiated material. Despite this understanding, various and scattered stored nuclear waste has raised the issue of inefficient management problems as well as a possible burden for researchers. In addition to the nuclear waste issue, it is also necessary and important to manage the scraps and samples of fresh nuclear materials after projects have finished. Therefore, the proposed approach was applied to reduce the researcher’s management burden from nuclear waste, scraps, and samples from fresh nuclear material. This integrated management approach consists of proper approaches for each physical form and chemical composition and legal internal frameworks with regulation and procedure guidance. This paper shows the integrated management approach for nuclear waste, scraps, and samples from fresh materials at KAERI.
