Abstract
In early 1990s, Taipower conducted a comprehensive evaluation aimed at selecting a suitable spent fuel dry storage scheme comprised of storage technology, facility location and construction mode for each of the Chinshan and Kuosheng plants. The evaluation concluded that on-site dry storage facility with modular and retrievable features was the most favorable option. The objective of building dry storage facilities is to maintain continual operation of nuclear power plants after their spent fuel pools are filled up. And, in parallel with the dry storage projects, Taipower will continue to conduct geological investigation program and develop technologies required for selecting a site suitable for final disposal of spent fuel.
