Abstract
Sandia National Laboratories has developed a portable explosives detector utilizing a small chemical detector and macro-sampling/preconcentration technologies. The chemical sensor is a Sandia-designed micro-ion mobility spectrometer (??IMS). The portable macro-sampling/ preconcentrator is based on a Sandia patented preconcentration technology. Sandia adapted and combined these technologies into a sensitive, cost-effective, hand-portable trace explosives detection system called the MicroHound™. A description of the MicroHound project and the microsensor and macro-sampling/preconcentrator technology will be presented.
