Abstract
As a candidate to join the IAEA-NWAL for environmental sample analysis fornuclear safeguards, KAERI has been developing bulk analysis techniques for nuclear materials in ultra-trace levels with stateof-the-art analytical instruments. The techniques and the analytical procedures employed in KAERI for bulk analysis was verified with analysis using sub-nano-gram of uranium and few pico-grams of plutonium certified reference materials showing excellent agreements with the certified values. The NWAL qualification process of KAERI for bulk analysis is currently in the final stage. KAERI is also establishing analytical systems for isotopic analysis of single particles contained in a swipe sample. The SEM-TIMS technique was adopted for the recent interlaboratory comparison test for uranium particle analysis, NUSIMEP-7, which confirmed the capability of KAERI for single particle analysis for nuclear safeguards purpose.
