Abstract
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) established the Nuclear Security Assessment Methodology (NUSAM) project to develop a risk-informed, performance- based methodological framework for the conduct of security assessments in a systematic, structured, comprehensive and appropriately transparent manner. The framework will be used to assess the nuclear security of nuclear and other radioactive materials, as well as associated facilities and activities within regulatory control. In addition to the development of a methodology for conducting security assessments, the project developed o number of case studies: nuclear power plant, irradiator facility, and transport of radioactive material. This paper discusses the transport of radioactive material case study, providing insights into the development of the simulated activity, and discusses the conduct of a security assessment using multiple methods, to include table top exercises and manual approaches.
