Abstract
After the attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) determined that additional security measures should be put in place during the transport of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and radioactive material in quantities of concern (RAMQC) and that current security regulations should be enhanced to further protect SNF during transport. As an interim measure, the NRC issued orders to licensees shipping SNF and RAMQC. Subsequently, the NRC promulgated additional requirements for the physical protection of irradiated reactor fuel and RAMQC in transit. This presentation will discuss these new requirements.
