Abstract
Sandia National Laboratories is developing systems to get the right sensor information to the right user to enhance the safety, security and international accountability of nuclear material. This paper will provide an update on Sandia’s program to create these material monitoring systems. Specific topics covered will include a description of the new “T1” electronic sensor platform now in production, an update on Sandia’s Integrated Nuclear Material Monitor program to create advanced sensor platforms, a summary of research into alternate power sources that could be used to minimize or eliminate the need to replace sensor platform batteries, advances in the system software and an overview of where Sandia Material Monitoring Systems are being deployed in 1999.
