Abstract
The Nuclear Materials Management and Safeguards System (NMMSS) has long served the DOE and NRC in nuclear materials safeguards. However, there are other uses of the system that might not be apparent to users. During the past year, personnel of the new DOE Office of Plutonium, Uranium and Special Materials Inventory, SO-23, and NAC International have identified ways to use NMMSS data to assist in evaluating the quality of materials control and accountability (MC&A) performed at DOE sites. Individual facility data, when compared to expected data, could flag areas where problems exist. Additionally, new data elements to be required as part of the NMMSS Upgrade will provide additional information to SO-23 for assessing the quality of facility performance.
