Abstract
After 911 in 2001, nuclear or radiological security, the needs to ensure and control the nuclear or radioactive materials, has emerged as a global pressing issues concerning malevolent utilization for the radiological terrorism. Until now, the international and national efforts for reducing the threat of radiological terrorism and for responding to emergency effectively have been strengthened. Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) has been conducting the work to walk in step with international trends. This paper introduces the implemented activities by KINS for enhancing radiological security in Korea, especially on the preparation and response for G20 Seoul Summit. KINS established the defense-in-depth system for radiation detection and monitoring on the basis of IT technology to support major public events. This effort will make a large contribution to cut off the malicious intention of terrorists to hide up and move the radioactive material illicitly and to prevent the radiological terrorism.
