Abstract
At the INMM 46th Annual Meeting in 2005, NTI President Charles Curtis challenged INMM to create an organization to promote best practices in nuclear security and help put those best practices in place in nuclear facilities throughout the world. A team of experts responded and agreed to create the World Institutefor Nuclear Security (WINS). WINS was launched at the 2008 IAEA General Conference and established in Vienna as an Austrian Association. It opened for business in January 2009. Since then, WINS has been officially recognized as an international NGO and made important progress to establish its operating model and vision of nuclear security and has convinced major international nuclear security stakeholders of its political credibility and independence. This article reviews the progress made byWINS to date.
