Abstract
In the past decades, technology has been constantly improving making security challenges increasingly difficult to tackle. This paper will focus on drones as an interesting part of such technological advances. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or drones have recently become a threat to security, while at the same time can be utilized in a way which may solve existing and new security issues. Until now drones were mainly regarded as a security threat to nuclear facilities, but the main goal of the paper is to show how drones can be used for protection of nuclear facilities. Drones can play a crucial role in the detection - delay - response concept. The paper will include a review of drone threats to nuclear facilities and ways for these threats to be solved. It will also focus on the analysis of their specifications for use in nuclear security. It will show what the advantages of drones as a security measure are over systems currently in use. The significance of the paper will be in the analysis and comparison of the advantages of the UAV over other security systems and the return of investment on UAV in nuclear security. This analysis may change the concept of physical security at nuclear facilities as we know it.
