Abstract
The Brookhaven Nuclear Nonproliferation, Safeguards, and Security (NNSS) course has long been a leading source of university-level nonproliferation education, providing a comprehensive introduction to the aforementioned topics and their associated legal frameworks. This paper provides an overview of the NNSS course including how it supports the Next Generation Safeguards Initiative’s Human Capital Development sub-element, the evolution of the NNSS course’s agenda, focus, methods, and an evaluation of its effectiveness. It also provides lessons learned and best practices for successfully implementing nonproliferation education at the undergraduate and graduate level.
