Abstract
Non-waste Actinide Radioactive Materials have been transported in the 6m Specification Package for more than 40 years. These materials may be from weapons programs, nuclear energy or university research , space flight and other active programs. Actinide Materials may be in metal, oxide or even chloride form each of which has unique issues to be addressed for transport. Gas generation issues often prevent shipment of non-metal actinide contents whose impurities, moisture content and physical form may be unknown or exceed certain thresholds. Pyrophoric or Spontaneous Heating Issues have to be addressed with some metals or organic compounds. This paper reviews a few examples of current RAM Packaging Submittals and Authorizations and the associated strategies used to address these issues.
