Abstract
We review several often overlooked sources of potential bias when assaying waste containers by gamma-ray spectrometry. These effects are typically small compared to other sources of uncertainty in the measurement of waste items. Sufficient coverage of these effects should, nonthe- less, be included in the total measurement uncertainty estimator and in some situations they do dominate.
