Abstract
This project includes research into appropriate and redundant sensors that would travel externally on or with a cask and would gather information about contamination/radiation above the regulatory limits, temperature changes, and changes to the general environment surrounding the cask. In addition, the optimal locations for sensors are to be recommended and communications systems identified that could provide data to the States, as well as to DOE, carriers, and other users. The latter may include research into tracking systems, such as TRANSCOM. This work is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM).
