Abstract
Non destructive methods for the determination of uranium or plutonium concentrations in solid samples are required by the International Atomic Energy Agency. In this work, the X-ray excitation by gamma and beta radiation is analysed for uranium bearing materials with different uranium mass fractions and different enrichments. The calculations and some measurements indicate, that it may be possible to use the ratio of the intense U K^} X-ray and the 186 keV gamma lines of a gamma spectrum to obtain an information on the uranium mass fraction.
