Abstract
RMTC is a unique center, which provides the training for the Russian Federation’s nuclear facility staff in the NMC&A field. One of the center’s main objectives is to train students in the practice of NMC&A procedure implementation and use of instruments, devices and computer hardware. RMTC activity is essentially influenced by the results of Russian state NMC&A system enhancement so RMTC is the center of NMC&A knowledge accumulation and distribution. To be successful in this activity, RMTC implements modern advanced techniques in training processes. Students knowledge testing is always done both at the beginning and the end of each course with special questionnaires and exercises. There are three categories of training courses conducted by RMTC: • theoretical courses with few exercises where just a auditory/presentation equipment and sheets is used (such as NMC&A Fundamentals, PIT, NMC&A System Performance Testing, Basics of NM Control, NMC&A System Inspections etc.), • computerized courses where computers and special software are essential (Software Engineering, Statistics), • courses on NDA and NM control where exercises with computers, NM units, radioactive sources, instruments and special accessories are extremely important (NDA, TID, Bar Code, C/S). The features of training techniques and knowledge distribution are well adjusted for course category. The special exercises on planning of NMC&A activities at model facilities are widely used for first category courses. Implementation of computer - based techniques are in process – CD room courses “ NMC&A Fundamentals” and “ PIT” will be ready soon. Any RMTC visitor may get the e-files containing NMC&A documents (regulations, manuals, guides), which are in effect or are in draft form. A special section will be created for these documents on the RMTC web page soon. A well-equipped computer class is available for the second category courses. A set of special software is installed in computers and gives the capability for the students both to study this software and to use them during the course and in site practice. The model software for the NM balance and ID evaluation, for scale calibration, and for NMC&A facility system computerization are available for training and distribution. The hands-on exercises consume the main part of the third category courses time. A full set of modern advanced hardware and software is available during these courses. Theoretical lessons usually take just one of five days. Each student finishing this category of courses should pass a testing exercise on the use of instruments and techniques, which were studied. RMTC provides the set of books with theoretical lectures and manuals for practice with instruments and techniques. These manuals include a special section with a description of the information collected by the RMTC about instrument failures, operator mistakes and recommendations on these cases actions.
