Abstract
The vault work-off activities at LANL continue to address risk reduction, through the mitigation of non-standard packages stored in the nuclear material vault. It has been determined, however, that vault risk alone cannot be considered as a sufficient metric. The deferral of the new Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) has made it imperative that more efficient use be made of the existing vault, meaning that risk reduction must be accompanied by a focused campaign to reduce long-term vault inventories. Accomplishing these goals will require a thorough categorization of the inventory, infrastructure upgrades, and consistent collaboration from existing programs and the DOE.
