Abstract
The Monju Fast Breeder Reactor is a fully safeguarded facility. A project has begun to implement remote monitoring of the existing safeguards equipment at the reactor. The goal of this project is to fully integrate the Monju reactor safeguards systems into a remote monitoring system. It is anticipated that cost savings will be realized for both the facility and the inspectorate through this implementation. This paper will describe the design approach that has been chosen, which will enable modernization of safeguards data collection and transmission from this facility without compromising the reliability of the existing safeguards data collection. It is hoped that the approach chosen for the introduction of remote monitoring at this facility can be used as a design blueprint for other facilities.
