Abstract
The past 25 years of shared experience between Member States’ Support Programs and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has driven changes in managing the development of Safeguards equipment. Experience showed that the early consideration of reliability and maintainability (R&M) is a critical element in the program for developing highly dependable equipment. This paper provides a perspective on the IAEA’s current development process, explores the challenges confronting the deployment of the next generation of highly reliable Safeguards equipment needed to satisfy the IAEA’s mission, and discusses the required critical elements.
