Abstract
In this paper we discus how the National Nuclear Security Administration implemented a domestic radiological protection program using New York City to pilot the initial program. This pilot program included physical security protection and security assessment training for NYPD Counterterrorism Unit personnel. The resultant training and pilot program helped usher in a new domestic radiological security program called the U.S. Radiological Protection Program (USRP) that focuses on securing radiological material in medical, research, academic, and private industry facilities.
