Abstract
In order to develop environmental sample analysis techniques for the strengthened safeguards, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) has started an environmental nuclear analysis program since 1996. This program consists of development of analytical techniques and construction of a clean chemistry laboratory (the CLEAR facility). The CLEAR facility will be completed in June 2001 including installation and test run of analytical instruments. The environmental sample analysis techniques will also be applied for the CTBT verification and basic research and development related to environmental sciences. This paper describes the present status as for the construction of the CLEAR facility, development of analytical techniques, installation of analytical instruments, and international cooperation.
