Abstract
We address the operation procedures: (i) scenarios of the radiation control; (ii) possible places of installation or application of equipment; (iii) the maximum distance between a detector and the probable worst case of appearance of a radioactive source; (iv) measurement time interval. The main attention is focused on the equipment widely used for the border radiation control as primary equipment: vehicle and pedestrian radiation portal monitors. It is shown that the optimization of operation procedures and the usage of other equipment (metal detectors and X- ray machines) can increase the detection probability of radioactive sources, significantly simplify the design and decrease the cost of radiation portal monitors.
