Abstract
The Director of the Office of Security and Safety Performance Assurance established a nuclear Material Control and Accountability (MC&A) Task Force to support the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to continually improve integrated safeguards and security management. The two areas that were identified for a top-down review were MC&A and radiological sealed sources. The areas reviewed included: MC&A policy; MC&A technology development; MC&A field assistance; activities at New Brunswick Laboratory; and the current and planned nuclear material and radiological sealed source databases. The purpose of the Task Force was to determine ways to better meet evolving DOE needs. The Task Force’s recommendations and path forward are detailed in this paper.
