Abstract
The Department of Energy (DOE) supports the advancement of instrumentation and methods to be utilized in controlling and accounting for special nuclear materials (SNM). The technology development program supports the establishment of technology bases for numerous research and development projects through full scale development of systems. Projects include the development of instrumentation for the assay, detection, and surveillance of SNM. In addition, the OSS research and development (R&D) tasking effort includes supporting the advancement of integrated safeguards, the application of advanced technologies, assists DOE facilities in meeting domestic safeguard policies. All research and development efforts provide state-of-the-art technology for the DOE complex and are made available for commercial industry applications.
