Abstract
The global demand for energy is ever growing as the population grows and industrialization spreads. As nuclear energy is investigated to fill this void, concerns over proliferation and availability of plutonium to unstable markets complicate any potential solution. Within the GNEP concept, as well as in the framework of IAEA-led discussions over multinational approaches for the fuel cycle, it is widely recognized that \"reprocessing\" (or treatment and recycling) and enrichment activities should preferably be developed on a multinational/regional basis. This paper will present AREVA’s point of view on this matter. Next, we will present the point of view of multinational cooperation, including French, Japanese and US companies, on domestic implementation of a Consolidated Fuel Treatment Center and Advanced Recycling Reactor for GNEP.
