The purpose of the paper and corresponding presentation to the 61 st Annual Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) Meeting will be to highlight preparations the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is currently undertaking to evaluate its readiness to license the export of advanced reactors pursuant to 10 Code of Federal Regulations Part 110, ”Export and Import of Nuclear Equipment and Material” (10 CFR Part 110). In order to evaluate 10 CFR Part 110’s readiness to license these types of emerging technologies, the NRC formed a working group comprised of NRC and U.S. Department of Energy technical and licensing experts. The working group was formed to: evaluate NRC’s readiness to complete exports of advanced reactors to other countries consistent with NRC’s Principles of Good Regulation (independence, openness, efficiency, clarity, and reliability); and prepare a communication tool to share with prospective vendors of advanced reactors on NRC’s export licensing process. The presentation will review the findings of the working group and share the public communication tool the NRC intends to share with advanced reactor vendors. The presenter hopes that this paper and presentation will spark a fulsome discussion amongst interested stakeholders as to the process for licensing the export of advanced reactors from the United States.
