Abstract
There is a flurry of activities at the NRC which signal the resurgence of interest in nuclear energy in the United States. New designs are being certified and Early Site Permits are being issued. There have been notifications made to the NRC by preapplicants for Combined Licenses that indicate 24 new power reactors. A Combined License permits a reactor to be built and operated. The Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 73.55 has been revised and a new security assessment requirement is being added to ensure that these new reactors are secure and will withstand the current threat environment.
