Abstract
Japan has promoted research, development and utilization of nuclear energy exclusively for peaceful purposes, while having set the goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons and adhering to the Three Non-Nuclear Principles. It is the basic policy of Japan to maintain this position in future. In so doing, one of the most important things is to secure human resources that can contribute sustainable development of nuclear energy . In the field of nuclear nonproliferation, it is expected that related organizations, both domestic and foreign and including universities, will co-operate with each other to develop human resources who can make international contribution for the compatibility between peaceful use of nuclear energy and nuclear nonproliferation. From this point of view, two organizations were established last year. One is the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management of the University of Tokyo. The other is Nuclear Nonproliferation Science & Technology Center(NPSTC)of Japan Atomic Energy Agency(JAEA). This paper introduces current status on the activities of two organizations, including the cooperation between them. It is the new challenge of Japan to develop human resources who can carry out responsible activities for the compatibility between peaceful use of nuclear energy and nuclear nonproliferation by using the related knowledge on both policies and technology.
