Abstract
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is developing an analytical assessment tool capable of capturing, maintaining, and manipulating pertinent safeguards and security inventory data at the item level. This project is in direct response to the terrorist events of September 11, 2001 and recommendations from the follow-on Combating Terrorism Task Force Working Groups in addressing safeguards and security inventory configuration vulnerabilities. This is primarily an internal NNSA initiative and, as such, is being developed for application at the major NNSA sites with nuclear material inventories. This paper discusses the project to develop the Nuclear Material Inventory Critical Assessment Capability, the progress that has been made to date, and the next steps.
